It's hard to believe we are just a few weeks away from a new year. As I prepare the Thanksgiving menu for my family, I was prompted to stop and reflect on the real reason for this season.
Often times in our quest to achieve success and pursue our purpose, it is easy to be so laser focused on where we are going and want to be, that we totally ignore where we are. I don't know about you, but for me personally, I am learning to make a conscious decision to pause often and enjoy my journey.
Perhaps like you, I have a long list of things I am striving to achieve and things that are constantly on my prayer list. However, this Thanksgiving, I realize it is important to pause and give thanks for the things God has already done.
I love the quote of one of my favorite pastors, Joyce Meyers, who often says, "I am not where I want to be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be". Can you relate? Today, I am experiencing the answered prayers of yesterday, but if I'm not careful, I could easily miss the opportunity to celebrate and enjoy them.
This Thanksgiving, I challenge you to pause and reflect on where God has brought you from. Think about the things He has saved you from. Give thanks for all the things you have accomplished over the years (no matter how small). Express your appreciation for those in your life who bring you joy and stretch you to be all you were created to be.
The fact that you are breathing today means He still has a plan and purpose for your life and I encourage you to give thanks with a grateful heart.
Lord, I thank you for your many blessings. Please forgive me for the times, I have appeared to be ungrateful or have taken your blessings for granted. Please help me be sensitive and let me be mindful to give you praise daily. Also teach me to express my love and appreciation to those near. In Jesus name, Amen.
